NEWS UPDATE OCTOBER 2007
Paul Clements, UNI Student Chapter President reports, "The students were volunteered by Dr. Scott Giese to make this years gift for the College Industry Conference, November 8-10 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago. We have to make at least 400 mini cannons including a brass cannon and oak base with wheels to give to everyone attending the conference. The students were responsible for the design, production, and finishing of each one, not only pouring the brass but machining the oak base as well. For us, it has simulated a high volume production shop and the problems that go with it. Everything from tooling breaking to loosing our air compressor and I have to say that I have been very impressed on how the students have overcome these problems to maintain production.

This year we had four students that were invited. This is what we have been working on for the last three months, the students have come every Thursday at 5:00pm and some nights don't leave until 10. Needless to say I am very proud of them."
